"NFL Picks, Predictions,
  Point Spreads & Odds"

Power Rankings Archives - Most NFL power rankings bounce teams all over because they disregard strength of schedule, or over-emphasize the most recent game played; giving too much credit for a single blowout of a low ranked team, and not enough credit for a close loss to a high ranked team.

At FootballLOCKS.com we dubbed that {{unstable power ranking syndrome}}.

Historical NFL power ratings at FootballLOCKS.com payed close attention to strength of opponents played without over-crediting the last game played (that was too fresh on the mind of many writers); all in a quest to deliver you with a weekly NFL power ranking that reflected the power of each team, and not just their record. For a team to crack the top 10 in FootballLOCKS.com's NFL football rankings, they had to earn it with more than a single crushing of a bottom ranked squad-- as you'll discover when reading through the archives.

Record

Comments December 19, 2006

1 (1)

Chargers

12-2

The definition of unstoppable is when your team allows a punt to be blocked, but somehow ends up with a first down on the recovery, and then the MVP of the league rips off an 85 yard TD run on the next play.

2 (2)

Bears

12-2

Chicago wrapped up home field advantage throughout the playoffs with an overtime win over the Buccaneers in a game entitled, "the one that almost got away, but didn't."

3 (3)

Ravens

11-3

The Ravens grabbed their 11th win of the season, clinching a playoff spot as Kyle Boller filled in for the injured McNair versus the Browns.

4 (4)

Colts

11-3

The Colts had no plans to lose 4 out of 5 and it showed in a dominating performance over the Bengals. Both sides of the ball came to play.

5 (6)

Patriots

10-4

The Patriots grabbed their 10th win of the season in a blowout of the Texans.

6 (5)

Saints

9-5

New Orleans clinched the AFC South in spite of losing to Washington... The loss dropped the Saints into a tie with the Cowboys for the remaining playoff bye, although New Orleans holds the tiebreaker thanks to their week 14 victory in Dallas.

7 (8)

Cowboys

9-5

Dallas outlasted Atlanta in a seesaw battle staying 1 game ahead of Philadelphia in the NFC East.

8 (7)

Jaguars

8-6

The Jaguars' playoff hopes took a big hit as Jacksonville dominated Tennessee, but still lost thanks to 3 turnovers returned for touchdowns by the Titans.

9 (9)

Bengals

8-6

Cincinnati was dominated on both sides of the ball in Indianapolis. The Bengals have their work cut out for them to qualify for the playoffs.

10 (16)

Titans

7-7

The Titans improved their winning streak to 5 games in a row, which includes wins over Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Jacksonville, and the New York Giants... It's certainly an impressive enough of a list of opponents to crack the top 10. Tennessee could possibly make the playoffs by winning out.

11 (17)

Eagles

8-6

Since losing McNabb the Eagles are playing above .500, have won 3 games in a row, and could make the playoffs. It's certainly a testament to how good of a coach is Andy Reid is.

12 (15)

Jets

8-6

New York got a huge road win in Minnesota to stay in serious wild card contention.

13 (10)

Seahawks

8-6

The Seahawks were swept by the 49ers. Who would have believed it at the start of the season? To make matters worse, Seattle has lost back to back games to Arizona and of course now San Francisco... A far cry from last season's Super Bowl run. But thanks to all 3 division rivals checking in at least 2 games below .500, the Seahawks still have a solid grip on top of the NFC West.

14 (14)

Broncos

8-6

The Broncos got a much needed win in Arizona (first with Cutler) that got them back into wild card contention.

15 (11)

Giants

7-7

The Giants dropped an all too important home game to the Eagles that was essentially a playoff game.

16 (12)

Falcons

7-7

A win over Dallas would have done wonders for Atlanta's wild card aspirations. But the Falcons were simply outscored by the Cowboys in a Saturday night showdown.

17 (19)

Steelers

7-7

Suddenly the Steelers have won 3 in a row, and if they can win out, they could make the playoffs.

18 (21)

Bills

7-7

After many tries Buffalo finally got to the .500 mark, via a shutout win over the Dolphins at home.

19 (13)

Chiefs

7-7

The Chiefs held the Chargers to 20 points, but K.C. could only muster 9 points of their own, so their playoff hopes took another hit for the 3rd week in a row.

20 (18)

Dolphins

6-8

The Dolphins saw their playoff hopes come to an end in Buffalo via a shutout.

21 (24)

Redskins

5-9

Washington's defense shut down New Orleans' offense resulting in an upset road win.

22 (20)

Panthers

6-8

Without Delhomme, the Panthers were no match for the Steelers and dropped to 2 games below .500, losing their 2nd game in a row at home.

23 (23)

Rams

6-8

St. Louis grabbed win #6. But it may be too little too late to make the playoffs... Then again, the way the NFC is shaping up, you never know.

24 (25)

Packers

6-8

Green Bay grabbed win #6, at home over Detroit.

25 (26)

49ers

6-8

San Francisco upset Seattle on Thursday night to earn a sweep of the Seahawks. But at 2 games below .500, the 49ers are probably too far from Seattle in the standings to catch up.

26 (22)

Vikings

6-8

Remember when the Vikings cracked the top 10 for 1 week? That was a long time ago. Minnesota fell to 2 games below .500, thanks to losing at home to the Jets.

27 (27)

Texans

4-10

Houston was demolished in New England. It was loss number 10.

28 (29)

Browns

4-10

The Browns gave the Ravens a game, but were unable to emerge victorious, and were hit with their 10th loss.

29 (28)

Cardinals

4-10

The Cardinals lost their 10th game of the season, and were simply no match for a Broncos' team that needed to win to stay in the hunt.

30 (31)

Buccaneers

3-11

The Buccaneeers pulled a miraculous comeback in Chicago, but fell in overtime. It was Tampa Bay's 11th loss.

31 (30)

Lions

2-12

The Lions dropped their 12th game of the season in a road loss to the Packers.

32 (32)

Raiders

2-12

The Raiders were blanked at home, losing their 7th game by double digits this year.
