Power Rankings Archives - Most NFL power rankings bounce teams all over
because they disregard strength of schedule, or over-emphasize the most recent game played;
giving too much credit for a single blowout of a low ranked team,
and not enough credit for a close loss to a
high ranked team.
At FootballLOCKS.com we dubbed that {{unstable power ranking syndrome}}.
Historical NFL power ratings at FootballLOCKS.com payed close attention to
strength of opponents played without over-crediting the last
game played (that was too fresh on the mind of many writers);
all in a quest to deliver you with a weekly NFL power ranking that
reflected the power of each team, and not just their record.
For a team to crack the top 10 in FootballLOCKS.com's NFL football rankings, they had to earn it
with more than a single crushing of a bottom ranked squad-- as you'll discover when reading through the archives.
In heroic fashion Big Ben drove the Steelers to a come-from-behind victory
over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, capped off by a thread the needle game winning touchdown toss to
Santonio Holmes. And who could ever forget James Harrison's 100 yard interception return at the end of the half
after picking off Kurt Warner in the end zone?
While Pittsburgh's defense couldn't hold up the entire game
against Warner, Fitz, and crew, you can't say enough about
Roethlisberger's foot work in the pocket all season long and throughout the big game.
Congrats to the Steelers for winning their 6th Super Bowl.
2/2
Cardinals
12-8†
After trailing for the majority of Super Bowl XLIII, the Arizona Cardinals stormed back
to take the lead over the Pittsburgh Steelers thanks to big plays by Kurt Warner and
Larry Fitzgerald. But much like the New England Patriots a season ago,
the Cardinals' defense couldn't hold onto their lead in the final minute of the game.
None the less, congrats to the Cardinals for a very memorable season.
